ABOUT

The Hungarian Jewish artist Ágnes Lukács (1920–2016) was imprisoned in 1944 and liberated from the Salzwedel concentration camp subcamp on 14 April 1945.

Her central motif - a closely united group of women as a symbol of solidarity amid violence - inspired Burkhard Schittny’s film work Dignity - Tribute to Ágnes Lukács.

In haunting slow motion, the 60-minute film depicts a group of women with shaved heads who repeatedly form and reform, their white clothing decorated with patterns based on Lukács’ original designs.

Like Lukács, Schittny confronts dehumanisation and restores dignity to those depicted.
