DIGNITY

Music for video installation

The Jewish-Hungarian artist Ágnes Lukács (1920–2016) was imprisoned in 1944 and liberated on April 14, 1945, in the Salzwedel subcamp.

Its central motif – a closely knit group of women as a symbol of solidarity in the midst of violence – inspired Burkhard Schittny’s film Dignity – Tribute to Ágnes Lukács.

In haunting slow motion, the 60-minute film shows a group of shaved-headed women who repeatedly reform, decorating their white clothing with patterns based on Lukács's models.

Like Lukács, Schittny deals with dehumanization and restores the dignity of those portrayed
